→ Data: 15–26°C; rains ended; medium grasses; moderate mosquitoes.
MALAWI — Liwonde, Majete + Lake Malawi
→ An excellent month for a safari + lake combination: elephants, lions, cheetahs, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, rich birdlife. Lake Malawi is idyllic: warm, calm, perfect for kayaking/snorkelling.
→ Data: 15–26°C; dry; declining mosquitoes; good tracks.
RWANDA — Gorillas
→ One of the best gorilla months: dry trails, low humidity, excellent visibility in bamboo forests.
→ Data: 12–22°C; very little rain; low mosquitoes.
OUGANDA — Gorillas, chimpanzees, savanna
→ Excellent month for primates: very active chimpanzees, clear sightings in Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth (tree-climbing lions).
→ Data: 15–25°C; dry; stable trails; mosquitoes decreasing.
SÉNÉGAL — Dakar, Sine Saloum
→ Last genuinely pleasant month before the rainy season. Clear light, dry air, superb for birdwatching and culture.
→ Data: 22–30°C; isolated late-month showers; moderate mosquitoes.
GABON — Loango, Lopé, Ivindo
→ Beginning of the Gabon dry season: better logistics, clearer forest observation, excellent sightings of forest elephants, buffalo, primates and birds.
→ Prime gorilla-viewing month:
— Loango’s habituated group is reliably accessible.
— Langoué Bai (Ivindo) sees frequent gorilla crossings at the forest clearing.
→ Data: 24–28°C; very low rain; moderate humidity; manageable mosquitoes; improving tracks.
SÃO TOMÉ-ET-PRÍNCIPE
→ Dry, calm, lush: ideal for rainforest walks, plantations and waterfalls.
→ Data: 25–29°C; light rain; moderate mosquitoes.
ZANZIBAR, PEMBA, MAFIA, THANDA, FANJOVE
→ Very good beach month: clear water, dry air, excellent snorkeling, perfect after safari.
→ Data: 24–29°C; rains ended; great underwater visibility.
MAURITIUS
→ Mild winter weather: excellent for active travellers and those avoiding heat.
