In Damaraland, superb chances of seeing desert elephants. A sublime month for photographers and lovers of vast landscapes.

ZAMBIA — South Luangwa & Lower Zambezi
→ One of the best safari months in the world: the dry season opens the landscape completely, revealing exceptional wildlife densities. Lions, leopards, hyenas, wild dogs, and vast concentrations of elephants along the Luangwa and Zambezi Rivers. Walking safaris reach their most spectacular level.

ZIMBABWE — Hwange & Mana Pools
→ October delivers truly dramatic scenes: immense herds of elephants in Hwange, and Mana Pools at its peak ; elephants standing on their hind legs to feed, highly active lions and wild dogs, and an unmatched river atmosphere.

TANZANIA NORTH — Serengeti Nord & Centre
→ The Migration is still present in the north, with occasional late Mara River crossings. Predators are very active in the central valleys and rocky areas. Visibility is perfect: low grasses, clear skies, sharp light.
→ Data: 18–30°C; dry; low grasses; almost no mosquitoes; excellent tracks.
WESTERN & SOUTHERN TANZANIA — Mahale, Katavi, Ruaha, Nyerere
→ For travellers seeking absolute wilderness, this is the best month of the year. In Mahale, chimpanzees are easy to locate on the dry slopes. In Katavi, huge concentrations of hippos and crocodiles gather in the shrinking pools. In Ruaha and Nyerere, predators are at their most active in fully open terrain.

KENYA — Masaï Mara, Laikipia, Lewa, Samburu
→ A bright, clear and very readable month: some late Migration groups in the Mara, abundant predators, excellent sightings of black and white rhinos in Lewa, and perfect visibility of the northern endemics in Samburu. A powerful month, less crowded than August–September.

RWANDA — Volcanoes National Park (gorillas)
→ An excellent intermediate period: some showers but still good trail conditions, pleasant temperatures, and very readable encounters with mountain gorillas in bamboo clearings.
→ Data: 12–22°C; moderate rain; trails sometimes slippery; moderate mosquitoes.
UGANDA — Bwindi, Kibale, Queen Elizabeth
→ A very good month for combining gorillas, chimpanzees, and safari. Trails remain accessible, forests are lush, and the tree-climbing lions of Queen Elizabeth are often visible.
→ Data: 14–25°C; occasional showers; moderate mosquitoes; good trail conditions.
